#10) Baseball Rallies for Dramatic Walk-Off Win Over Akron Ellet on Senior Night
The Fitch baseball team sent their seniors out on a high note by rallying late to pull out a dramatic 7-6 walk-off victory over Akron Ellet on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at Coppola Field. Prior to the game, the Athletic Department helped the team honor its Class of 2026 with Senior Night festivities for the quartet of Reggie Danko, Cole Gamertsfelder, Gavin Loomis, and Jaden Wallace.
Ellet jumped out quickly, scoring two runs in the top of the 1st inning before adding 2 more in the 3rd to take a 4-1 lead. The Falcons chipped away steadily, scoring in the 1st, 4th and 5th innings before erupting for 3 runs in the 6th to even the game at 6-6.
Fitch then finished the comeback in the bottom of the 7th thanks to A.J. Marinelli who worked several key walks throughout the night before scoring the winning run on a passed ball on a close play at the plate, and setting off the postgame celebration.
Gavin Loomis sparked the offense at the top of the lineup, going 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored and 2 stolen bases. Nick Pugliese delivered the biggest hit of the game, smashing a bases-clearing triple and driving in 3 runs. Joe Severn added an RBI single, while Greg Faunda contributed a single and scored once. Despite collecting only five hits, the Falcons showed patience at the plate with seven walks and capitalized on four errors by the visitors.
The comeback victory was epic on its own, but the memories of the win happening on Senior Night will live on for years to come for the newly graduated group of Reggie Danko, Cole Gamertsfelder, Gavin Loomis, and Jaden Wallace.
