On the strength of senior Kylie Folkwein's 20 points and overall solid free throw shooting, the Fitch girls basketball team picked up a 53-47 win at South Range on Monday to improve to 8-11 on the season.
The Lady Falcons held a 12-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and then extended their lead to 21-19 at the half. After Fitch led the scoring in the third quarter 10-8 to stretch the lead to 31-27 heading into the final period, both teams exploded on offense with the Lady Falcons putting up 22 points to the Lady Raiders' 20. That would be all Fitch would need to hang on for the six point win.
Folkwein led the scoring with 20 points while Kaliana Ray and Amiya Harris scored 13 and 10, respectively. Senior Kaelyn Bower had 5, Bella Baumgart finished with 4, and senior Amira Harris ended her night with 1 point.
Prior to the varsity win, the Fitch JV squad blew out the Lady Raiders 21-1 in just two quarters of play. Maria Kouros led the scoring with 8, Aviella Swift had 7, Stevonna Wright added 3, Ayanna Williams scored 2, and Araya Hayes finished with 1.
The Lady Falcons will head to Howland on Wednesday, February 4 to take on the Lady Tigers in a matchup of All-American Conference opponents. The junior varsity teams will play two quarters beginning at 5:30pm with the varsity tipoff to follow at approximately 6:15pm.
